20 June

Farewell Barcelona. Ola Madrid. We took a panoramic bus tour of Barcelona and stopped at the MNAC museum of Catalan art (mostly religious frescoes rescued from village churches). Our bus tour took us to the coast and up to the Olympic stadium.   This is a 'mirador', scenic viewpoint on Montjuic that overlooks the Barcelona  harbor.

We then boarded a high-speed train from Barcelona to Madrid. We noticed that it reached speeds of 201 km/hour.

We are staying on the tenth floor of the Hotel Opera. On arriving in Madrid, we checked in and dropped our bags in the room before re-joining our group for a walking tour of the central pedestrian area, which includes Puerta de Sol and Plaza Mayor. We then toured the Palacio Real before heading to dinner. Our tour guide Frederico is absolutely excellent. He was able to tell the history and mythology of what we saw, but made the tour much more interesting with his interpretation and opinion of the figures who ruled Spain.

We sat outside of our dinner spot until 10:30 PM. The sun hadn't quite set. Children were playing with scooters and balls. The people of Madrid were out walking their dogs and socializing in the nearby park. Tomorrow we expect a bus tour of Madrid.
